I know this is a Call of Duty 7: Black Ops Blog, but i’ve been asked by a few people on twitter if the Resurgence Pack, Released June 3rd 2010, is worth the purchase. For those of you who liked the Stimulus Package then I guarantee you will like the Resurgence Pack. I’m going to break each map down into 6 categories. Map Layout/Object Placements, Tactical Rating, Team Deathmatch Rating, Uniqueness, Fun Factor, and Size. Please note these are all from MY personal views on the maps and not based off any statistical breakdown.
Vacant (MW1 Re-Release Map)
Map Layout: 3/5
Tactical Rating: 2/5
Team Deathmatch Rating: 4/5
Uniqueness: 4/5
Fun Factor: 3/5
Size of Map: Small

Brief Breakdown: I will admit this map is one that grew on me. Both in MW1 and in MW2. For those of you who didn’t play MW1, it’s one of the smaller maps in the game.
It consists of two parts:
- #1.) The inside office with a lot of small rooms and corridors with a lot of open windows to see you through. For those of you who played MW1, on certain tactical games, the fence in the backroom has been removed.
- #2.) Outside area with a lot of storage bins to hide in/around, as well as a large open area to the left of the map (as seen on the blog picture) where you can enter the building. The building holds 6 entry points from the outside area.

Team Deathmatch Rating: 3/5
Uniqueness: 3/5
Fun Factor: 3/5
Size of Map: Medium

Brief Breakdown: This map is not one of my favorites. I’m not going to say it’s completely bad, because I have had good games on this map before. The only reason I don’t like this map is because it’s separated to a point where there is a large amount of campers and choke points. There is three major points of action in this map :
- #1.) The Off-Center part of the map, which is the most common fighting area. There is a very common camping window near the right side of this area (just to the right of you if you were in the blog picture). It overlooks a huge part of the map. You will becoming familiar with this spot in no time.
- #2.) The two spawn points. One on the left and one on the right. They did make some changes from MW1 on the left side spawn. They opened up the two story building giving it another way to enter the building on the lower level.

Brief Breakdown: This is a very creative and interesting map. I’m not exactly sure if I love it or hate it, but there’s not much in between. Complete hit or miss for most players I’ve talked to. It’s a relatively small map, with tons of choke points, and very little places to hide. You can find a lot of open trailer windows to throw grenades into, and trailer doors to run inside. The best part about this map is it’s very hard to camp on. You have a few windows that are heavily camped but once you get the hang of the common spots, this is a pretty fast and active map. Expect a lot of noob-tubes/grenades/flash and stuns on this map. Especially if you are playing tactical games (but when don’t you see noob-tubes during tactical anymore). Major fighting points on this map are:
- #1.) Center of the map. There is two trailers making a 90 degree angle on the left side of the center. These both have camping windows that are very commonly used. Throw your nades in them to pick up some extra kills. There is also a stand-alone pool in the middle of the battle area. The right hand side is open and can see all the action but you are vulnerable to camping.
- #2.) The two spawn points. One on the bottom of the map and one at the top of the map. The bottom of the map is a bit more vulnerable to rushes and attacks because there isn’t as many places to hide and find cover. The top part of the map (which you can see in the picture) I.M.O. holds up stronger during rushes because of all the objects to hide behind and take cover.

Size of Map: Large

Brief Breakdown: A majority of the players that I’ve talked to so far have had fairly good things to say about this map. Me being one of them. This is a great map because it’s separated into two parts. One of snipers/campers on the right side of the map (which you can see in the picture), and one for more close range on the left side of the map. Very interesting concept and it worked out quite well in my opinion. I’ve given this map layout and uniqueness a 5/5 just because of that idea. There is so many different styles of play on this map, it’s awesome. Beware of the roof tops and high windows! This is a great map for Tactical play, not so great for Team Deathmatch. I’ve never been a huge fan of large maps when it comes to TDM. They force more players to camp and you get caught running around aimlessly looking for people way too much. The main points of fighting are:
- #1.) The center two story building is a very common place of fighting. This is mainly because there are three huge windows on the second story that give you a great view of the left side of the map. In tactical play there is always something going on in this building and is a good place to start playing if you want to pick up some kills.
- #2.) The far right hand side near one of the spawn points. This is a common area of fighting because there is so much going on here. You have great places to camp, great places to run and find enemies, and lots of cool stuff to hide behind. One specific area is a small cut off section with lots of pipes. You have three entry points to this cut-off area, so you can imagine camping in this spot can be difficult. This spot has limited visibility from the rest of the map, but seems to be a common choke point in tactical battles.

Carnival
Map Layout: 5/5

Team Deathmatch Rating: 5/5
Uniqueness: 5/5
Fun Factor: 5/5
Size of Map: Medium

Brief Breakdown: Last but not least, my all time favorite, Carnival. This is such a bad ass map. It has a few very common camping spots for Snipers that have been abused since Day 1. Nothing that you can’t stop or find ways to sneak up on them though. You need to be on your toes when playing this map, which is another reason I love it so much. It’s a fairly large map but most of the battles go on in the middle. This is another one of those maps where staying in the direct center of the map will get you killed very easily. So you need to keep up high or down low watching for the Snipers and Campers that go up top. The common fighting areas of this map are:
- #1.) The “bumper car” spawn point. You will see a set of bumper cars when you spawn. This leads you to three different areas to fight. You can run to the far right hand side and try and sneak into their spawn or look for Snipers. Going this direction also allows you to get into the common “Clown” building top-floor which i’ll explain later.
- #2.) The “Amusement Park Rides” spawn point. This is the spawn point of the ever-so-common “Rocket” sniper spot. It’s a huge rocket that you can climb into and overlook a large portion of the map. Very common place to see snipers throughout the match. Keep an eye on this Rocket window for any moving enemies to help your team. You also have very easy access to the “Clown” building and can easily get into the “bumper car” spawn point from this starting point.
- #3.) The “Clown” building. Never forget about this building while you’re playing and you will always come out on top. This is a two story building overlooking the center of the map. It has a clown mouth you can walk into from the front of the building (which you can see in the picture). There are 4 major ways to get into this building. Three below, and One up top. The one entry way from up top is coming from the right side of the “bumper car” spawn point.

I hope this helps you. I know this isn’t the greatest explanations of each one, but you can get the general idea. Enjoy. If you like it, Facebook Share and Re-Tweet for me
First off, this is Ladiesman777 from Twitter. Thanks for the review. Of course, I do not have this map pack, because I’m on PS3. Which by the way, I feel is very biased. Carnival does look very fun and from the footage I’ve seen it’s likely to be a shotgun-fest. Most people tell me not to buy it, but I think it’s worth it because we only get a map pack every few months, and $15 isn’t much to pay. You gave Fuel pretty good ratings, and that surprised me because that is the most hated map among the people I’ve spoken to. But now that I have some expertise, I won’t look like a total noob when it comes out for PS3. Thanks again.
Hey man. Thanks for the comment. I haven’t dealt with too many shotguns on Carnival yet actually. The map that has really turned into a shotgun-fest is Vacant.
That’s right, they made this an XBOX only release. Kinda stupid. I definitely like Fuel. One of my friends that I play with a lot, hates every map but, actually likes Fuel. You also have to remember that the average player who hates a map is probably just not good at it yet. I tried keeping an open mind on the reviews and I guess I like a few more than I realized once I broke it down.
[...] don’t play on XBOX 360, you won’t have to wait much longer. Infinity Ward released the Resurgence Pack on June 3rd, 2010 but only for XBOX 360 players. Why they did this? Who’s to say. But if you [...]
